GTA 6: An Extended Look
Official video by Rockstar Games, 26 minutes 48 seconds.Watch on YouTube
An Extended Look is Rockstar’s 26-minute GTA 6 gameplay showcase. It premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026 at 3 p.m. ET and went up on YouTube and the GTA VI website at 9 p.m. ET the same day. Before launch, it is the longest official footage of the game.
What it revealed
- Rockstar says all of it was captured from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.
- It premiered on Netflix, an unusual choice for Rockstar, which normally debuts trailers on its own channels. YouTube and the GTA VI site got it six hours later.
- Control switches between Jason and Lucia. In one sequence, Kotaku describes the view jumping from Lucia mid-parachute to Jason in a nearby apartment within seconds.
- Missions shown include a pickup that turns into a police raid, a getaway drive with Jason shooting at police while Lucia drives, and a security job at a night-time party that ends in a firefight (as described by Kotaku and Dexerto).
- Combat (per Kotaku): Jason slows time to aim, and the reticle flashes one colour for a kill and another for knocking someone out of the fight.
- Interface: a Red Dead Redemption 2-style interaction menu, branded weapons such as the Moreland 850 shotgun, and a minimap with 3D buildings (spotted by Kotaku).
- Activities glimpsed: scuba diving, airboats in the swamps, races, store robberies, a shooting range, the gym, kayaking and parachuting (Kotaku, Dexerto).
Our take
Until August 2026, everything Rockstar had shown of GTA 6 was cut as a trailer. An Extended Look is the first chance to watch it play for a sustained stretch. It runs nearly 27 minutes, alternating between missions and montages of the open world.
In Kotaku’s and Dexerto’s accounts, the missions follow one pattern: a simple job goes wrong. A pickup at an apartment building turns into a police raid, a getaway for a new contact turns into a running gunfight, and a security job at a high-rise party ends with armed attackers storming the building. The trailers sold the idea of an easy score gone wrong, and this video shows it as the structure of the missions.
The other main takeaway is how much of Red Dead Redemption 2 has come across. Kotaku spotted a context menu for interacting with people, a clothing wheel and branded weapons, and compared the menu and the wheel to Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar’s last new game.
What it does not settle
It shows Jason and Lucia both being played, but not the full rules for switching between them. It shows a lot of activities, but not how they pay or unlock. We have kept this page to what is on screen, and the guides on this site will be updated from the game itself after November 19.
