Take-Two’s Zelnick won’t rule out a future GTA 6 disc

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told IGN he “wouldn’t rule out anything” on a later GTA 6 disc, but none has been announced. He said leak worries played no part in the no-disc decision.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has not ruled out a disc version of GTA 6 arriving at some point. IGN asked him on August 7, 2026 whether he could rule it out. He replied: “I wouldn’t rule out anything at this stage of the game.” Rockstar and Take-Two have not announced a disc version.

For now the plan is unchanged. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and there is no disc at launch: boxed copies contain a download code. Zelnick told IGN that what has been announced is what Take-Two is doing for now, but that the company is “always open minded”.

The interview took place on the day Take-Two published its results for the April to June quarter. On the 8 a.m. ET investor call, Zelnick said that in some cases, especially for a big game, discs “don’t really make sense for the consumer”. He noted that most games already ask players to register online, and that Take-Two’s business is “well over 90%” digital. He gave the same figure to IGN and The Game Business.

He also rejected the idea that GTA 6 skipped a disc to stop it leaking before launch. Asked by IGN whether worry about leaks had played any part in Take-Two’s thinking, he answered: “No.”

Looking further ahead, Zelnick told IGN he does see physical discs going away, though a small number may remain, much as vinyl has in recorded music. He said he could not guess when. He also said he does not expect the lack of a GTA 6 disc to hurt Take-Two financially.
