Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has explained why GTA VI is not coming to PC at launch: Rockstar serves its console players first. “Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core,” he told Bloomberg in an interview published on May 4, 2026.
VGC reports that the interview took place at the Interactive Innovation Conference (iicon) in Las Vegas, a new industry event run by the Entertainment Software Association from April 27 to 30. Zelnick said that when he joined Take-Two in 2007, series such as NBA 2K made only about 5% of their sales on PC. Now, he said, “with regard to a big title, PC can be 45%, 50% of the sales.”
Asked why GTA VI would still skip PC on day one, he pointed to the core audience. “If your core consumer isn’t there, if they’re not served first and best, you kind of don’t hit your other consumers,” he said. Asked whether any marketing deal with Sony had created a console exclusivity period, he answered: “No. I mean, historically Rockstar’s gone to console first.”
Recent Rockstar releases follow that pattern. GTA V reached PC in April 2015, 19 months after its September 2013 console launch, and Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived on PC just over a year after its console release.
Zelnick did not announce a PC version or give a date for one. GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. On October 13, 2026, GamesBeat reported, citing four anonymous sources, that a PC version is planned for the first quarter of 2027. Rockstar and Take-Two have not confirmed that report.
