This is a claim from Twitch, not an announcement from Rockstar. In a Bloomberg interview published on September 17, 2026, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said he expects Rockstar to release GTA 6’s multiplayer in 2027, the year after the game comes out. Rockstar has not confirmed an online mode or a date.

Clancy spoke to Bloomberg while in Japan for the Tokyo Game Show. He said other publishers are either putting big games out in October or waiting until the excitement around GTA 6 fades, and he suggested that wait could run long. “We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans,” he said. “You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”

Clancy did not say whether Rockstar gave Twitch that timing or whether 2027 is his own estimate. He does not speak for Rockstar, and neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has announced a GTA VI online mode or a date for one.

Officially, GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Take-Two describes it as a single-player experience. At its annual shareholder meeting the same week, Take-Two said it will keep supporting the existing GTA Online, the mode that came with GTA V. As quoted by VGC, it said: “We will continue to support GTA Online after the Grand Theft Auto 6 release and beyond.”

For comparison, GTA V also launched as a single-player game, and GTA Online followed about two weeks later. We will list a date for GTA VI online only when Rockstar announces one.
