Rockstar says GTA 6 satire won’t get too specific about real people
Rockstar’s Rupert Humphries told LOVE magazine that GTA 6 avoids getting too specific about any real person, event or movement, so it feels current without copying the real world.

Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative at Rockstar, says GTA 6 is not meant to be “too specific about any particular person, event, movement or anything like that.” He said it in LOVE magazine’s GTA 6 cover story for issue 27, which LOVE published online on October 5, 2026.
His reason is that Rockstar wants its games to feel tied to the moment they come out, but not to copy today’s world exactly. Development time matters too. “We work on it for years and years, so you need to make content that will feel vital to the moment of release,” Humphries said. A trend that blows up for six months, he added, should be seen for what it is, not chased.
Leonida is Rockstar’s version of Florida, and Humphries said the setting gives the team “so much to work with”. Politics is still part of the world. He said players can see election signs, get robocalls from campaigns, and hear radio adverts and political talk shows.
In most cases, he said, the writers did not copy real things one for one. They took subjects that interested them, such as conspiracy theories and odd public reactions to everyday events, and built their own exaggerated versions. “There is a big focus on not just holding up a mirror, but on making everything satirical, larger than life, and more grotesque,” he said. “Otherwise, you could just go outside and live in the real world!”
Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, made a similar point to IGN in comments first published in August. Because Rockstar works on long development cycles, he said, it has to choose what to satirize with care, and “very specific political issues or memes will date fast.”
Neither Humphries nor Nelson named Donald Trump or any other real politician in these interviews, so any claim that GTA 6 avoids one particular figure goes beyond their words.
