Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball said on X late on October 6, US time, that GTA 6 will not stream exclusively or to PC. He was responding to a report from The Verge earlier that day. Rockstar has not confirmed any streaming deal.
The Verge, citing sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans, reported that Xbox had won the rights to stream GTA 6 through Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch. Its first version described the deal as exclusive. The report said Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told staff at an all-hands meeting that Microsoft was preparing something for the game that "no other platform holder is doing," and its sources tied that remark to the streaming deal.
Early coverage read this as a way to play on PC on launch day, because Xbox Cloud Gaming normally works in browsers and PC apps and Rockstar has not announced a PC version. Ball’s post ruled that out. He said the excitement had "led to some misreporting" and wrote: "We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
The Verge has since added a correction saying the deal is not exclusive and the game will not be streamed to PCs. It now reads Ball’s words as pointing to streaming on Xbox consoles only, which could leave out the browsers and apps that normally carry Xbox Cloud Gaming. Ball did not say what streaming, if any, Xbox will offer, and Microsoft has not said which devices will get the game through the cloud.
If GTA 6 does stream on Xbox Cloud Gaming, that play would count toward Microsoft’s new limits. Microsoft announced on September 3 that from November, Game Pass members get 15 hours of cloud play a month on Ultimate, 10 on Premium and 5 on Essential. Extra hours, and cloud time for people without Game Pass, will be sold at prices Microsoft has not yet announced.
Officially, nothing has changed: GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. We will treat any streaming details as unconfirmed until Rockstar or Microsoft spells them out.
